Taurine, is a amino sulfonic acid, naturally-occurring in the human body. It stimulates the nervous system but is not proven to increase energy. It was originally discovered in the bile of a bull back in 1827 by some German scientists and has been tested in labs since using mice and rats, with most results showing skeletal aid and liver recovery.

Where Does Taurine Come From?

Taurine is found in many foods like seafood and meat. The exact amounts of intake vary but seem to range between 40-400 mg/day. This is lower in vegans or if your meat intake is small. Again it is found in human tissue and is companion to the substance Bile in the human body. Taurine is also synthetically produced, see the wuote from wikipedia:

Synthetic taurine is obtained from isethionic acid (2-hydroxyethanesulfonic acid), which in turn is obtained from the reaction of ethylene oxide with aqueous sodium bisulfite. Another approach is the reaction of aziridine with sulfurous acid. This leads directly to taurine.” – wikipedia

What Is Taurine In Energy Drinks

Taurine in energy drinks is the manufactured synthetic version added to the drink. The issue that arises here is the mixture of other ingredients with it such as green tea extracts, caffeine, guarana, and sugar.
